Body-Cells

A pluricellular organism production from the simple match of a female (ovum) and male (spermatozoon) gamete has always represented, in the biology studying, the biggest fascination and challenge to its comprehension. The question still remains: what stipulates the development of the human embryo - in which process same cells are distinguished in an individual way to form specific tissues, such as the liver, bones, blood, etc? But, while it remains fathomless even to scientists, searches with the body cell bring to this universe the hope of new therapies - inclusively the perspective of degenerative diseases cure.

Through the sexual process of reproduction, all living animals (animal or vegetal) stem from a unique cell - the egg-cell or zygote -, the result of the male and female gamete match. After the match of the spermatozoon (the smallest cell in the organism) with the ovum (the biggest one), in consecutive separation, through mitosis, the zygote makes an initial set of cells - the totipotents, which are able to create any part of the organism. It is called mitosis the phenomenon where the cells consecutively duplicate, bringing forth identical cells with the same functions, identical potency and hereditary information.

  Water turn
The Science and Technology National Week 2005 has water as a motto. But it means all the themes to diffuse Brazilian science. The MCT wants a scientifically society even more educated and, for that they bet on education through diffusion. Last year, there were 1800 subscribed activities. ScienceNet gives all the support to the leading action and provides the event about the Brazilian Antarctic Program with the IO/USP.
