A week to talk about science all over the year

There comes the II Science and Technology National Week. The aim is stimulate the achievement of events related to the science and technology world all over the country and to raise circumstances to grow a scientifically society even more educated. It takes place on October 3rd to 9th, and this year the main topic is water.




Promoted by the Science and Technology Secretariat to the Social Inclusion, through the Popularization and Diffusion of Science Department of the Science and Technology Ministry (MCT), the Week wants to highlight the importance of Science and the shock of its application on Brazilians people's life. Although the main topic is "Brazil, look at the water", the Week is not restricted only to this approach and not even for only a week. All the efforts to get to popularization of science are worthwhile and the programs must continue.

The event is talking place concomitantly all over the country and it is open to whoever feels interested in it. Last year, with the "Brazil, look at the sky" theme, 500 schools and research institution were mobilized and 1.842 activities happened in 252 municipal districts, according to the organizers. In 2005, the Week is expected to reach even more municipal districts and have universities, schools and scientific and technological institutions taking part in.

  TV spoils the appetite
A search done by USP of Ribeirão Preto shows that bad eating habits are diffused by several TV program advertisements directed to youth. The TV also contributes to sedentariness what makes the infant obesity levels heavier, as it is said in the search. 432 programming hours were studied.
